I know, I’m a little late, but I had a project that I just had to finish before I drew attention back to myself! But before I get into that, I want to extend my wishes for a fabulous 2011 for all my readers, and I hope you all had a safe and fun New Year celebration. Here’s hoping 2011 brings all the good stuff that 2010 forgot!
What’s new at katili*made, you ask? Why, a sparkly new layout!! Well… maybe shiny new, there’s no glitter here (YET)!
I started with the amazingly customizable, blank slate that is the template known as Canvas and spent much longer than I should have making it look how I wanted it to. I tried to keep the same overall feel of the old layout, because I really appreciated the simplicity and white space that it offered.
The biggest change is something that only benefits me, because I’m selfish like that. The WooThemes backend includes an awesome on-the-fly image resizer. With the old layout, I had to save 2 specifically sized images; one for the box on the front page, and one for the individual post page. Now, I just upload a single image at whatever size I exported it as, and the theme will automatically create the front page thumbnails, the small square preview for the sidebar, etc. That means easier posting for me, yay! This also probably means more posts for you since it’s not such a process. Double yay!
The quick tour of what’s new: the layout now displays more posts per page, while only showing the post description on the front page to keep it from being too long. The styling on the Twitter and Facebook widgets look a lot better now, and I finally beat the Ravelry Progress Bars into submission, and I think it looks awesome! The slider on the top of the home page displays my most recently completed projects.
I think that’s about it! I’ve been staring at the homepage for way too many hours, so if any of your fresh pairs of eyes spot something that looks strange or doesn’t work, please let me know so I can fix it!
In other news, I plan on casting off 52 projects this year, so expect to see some more FO posts! It’s a very ambitious goal, and I don’t know if I’ll actually make it, but it’s nice to have ambitions and at least try! I’m in the 2011 52in52 group on Ravelry, if you want to join me. I also plan on knitting down my queue and using a bunch of my stashed yarn. Wish me luck in not buying a ton of new yarn!
And again, I hope you all had a great new years :D Mine was pretty quiet, I stayed home and had a friend over and we played some Werewolf and drank a couple mixed drinks. It was low-key, but a lot of fun.
